Graduation Time!

On Friday the Cal State Stanislaus women's soccer team will graduate four seniors. Lisa Garcia, Jade Adamson, Heather Overholt, and Vanessa Cervantes will all walk. The two other "super seniors" on the team last fall, Kim DiNardo and Briana McClain, actually graduated last year. This senior class, who were all named "Most Inspirational" last week at the athletic banquet, have led the Warriors to national prominence.

Warriors Explode For 8 Goals!

Cal State Stanislaus women's soccer erupted offensively in an 8-1 win over UC Santa Cruz on Saturday night before a spirited crowd at Warrior Stadium. The eight goals was a season high for the Warriors and improved their Spring record to 3-1. The Warriors will conclude the Spring season on April 30th against UC Davis. Kickoff is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. at Warrior Stadium.

It doesn't get more local than the addition of Alisa Penick to the Cal State Stanislaus women's soccer team. The Turlock native is projected to play in the midfield for her hometown college. Known for her crafty skill on the ball and athletic ability Alisa is an All League performer from Turlock High School. She is a three-year letter winner on varsity and was First Team All League in the CCC last season. Her sophomore year she led the Bulldogs to the CCC Championship and CIF Section Quarter Finals. Her junior year the Bulldogs repeat as champions and advanced to the section semi-finals. Alisa is a three-time scholar athlete for cross country and soccer at THS. She plans on majoring in Biology and her parents are Darla and Eddie.

Coach Bolton: Alisa just kind of fell in our lap here at the last minute thanks to some good recruiting by assistant coach Jenni Rosenberg and with the help of local soccer coach Les Baptista. She is someone we have had our eye on for four years. She is extremely creative with the ball, has outstanding athletic ability, and really can play any position on the field. Alisa is going to be an outstanding college player here for the Warriors.

Fun Fact: Alisa is better known by her nickname "Mini."

Keshia Lyons -- Sacramento, CA

Known by most simply as Key, this highly recruited forward joins the Warriors out of New Technology High School in Sacramento. She is four-year Honor Roll student. While she hasn't played high school soccer all four years she has been on varsity since her freshman year leading the team in goals and assists. She was voted team captain her sophomore year. Her high school coach is Mike Ferrigno. She plays her club soccer for Lonnee Richardson and the Nor Cal Elite soccer club. She has led them to over seven tournament championships over the past two years. She is also team captain. Her major is undecided. Her parents are DeAnna and Scott.

Coach Bolton: Key is a game changer. She combines elite level skill with amazing speed and athletic ability. I have no doubt that she is going to be an outstanding college forward and help take our program to the next level. In addition to her attacking skill she is also an extremely hard worker defensively. She has been very well coached in all aspects of the game.

Fun Fact: Key's high school New Technology is a charter school with approximately 300 students.

Kelsi Decker -- Truckee, CA

One of the most decorated players in Truckee High School history Kelsi brings her impressive resume to the Warriors. She led THS to three consecutive state championships. This season she was named All State Most Valuable Player and All Mount Rose League MVP. Kelsi is a four-time All Mount Rose League selection and a four-time All State Selection. THS is coached by Amy Valdivia. Kelsi plays her club soccer for San Juan Spirits '93 ECNL and coach Tony Perez. She plans on majoring in Kinesiology. Her parents are Vicki and Ron.

Coach Bolton: Kelsi will challenge for fastest Warrior right away. She has incredible quickness and top level speed. She will be a threat to get in behind defenses. In addition to her speed and athletic ability Kelsi is a very good finisher and crosser of the ball. Look for her to make an immediate impact.

Fun Fact: Kelsi recently won over $600 playing Bingo. She was by far the youngest person in the room.

Nikki Campbell -- Newbury Park, CA

A speedy attacking player Nikki is a three-year varsity soccer player at Newbury Park High School. Her versatility, skill and athletic ability allow her to play nearly every position on the field. She was also named Scholar Athlete in 2010. Nikki plays her club soccer for Crescenta Valley and coach Reggie Rivas. Nikki is planning on majoring in Business. Her parents are Lisa and Randy. Coach Bolton: Nikki is an explosive and crafty attacking player who will be a terrific offensive threat for us. She will come in and challenge for a starting position at the wing forward or outside back positions. Her ability to play equally well on the right and the left side makes her extremely valuable. However, what really makes Nikki special is her work ethic. It is hard to find forwards that bring the energy Nikki brings to each match.

Fun Fact: Nikki can't ride a bike.

Known as a tough defender Alyssa led RHS to a Marmonte League Championship and the second round of the CIF playoffs in 2010. For her efforts the team captain was named All Marmonte League Second Team. RHS is coached by Kevin Corely. Alyssa plays her club soccer for Crescenta Valley and coach Reggie Rivas. CV finsihed second in the Coast League in 2010. Alyssa is planning on majoring in Liberal Studies with the career goal of becoming an elementary school teacher. Her parents are Tina Jansen and Josh Dodson.

Coach Bolton: Alyssa is a versatile central player that can play both center back and defensive midfield. She plays with a great deal of intensity and heart. She is one of those players that you hate to play against but love having on your team because she is so tough and physical. Alyssa also has been very well coached and has a great understanding of the game.

Fun Fact: Alyssa was a ballerina until age 13.

A three-year varsity starter Madeline is a physical center defender for Bella Vista High School. Known for her physical presence she has helped lead the Broncos for the past three seasons. BVHS is coached by Christie Wheeler. Madeline plays her club soccer for the prestigious San Juan Soccer Club. She is the team captain. The Spirits are coached by Paul Arellanes. Madeline plans on majoring in Business Administration. Her parents are Carola and John.

Coach: Madeline is an eraser on the field. She has the speed and physical ability to delete any mistakes that are made defensively. She has all the physical tools to be a great college player. She has an incredible combination of speed, size and athletic ability. Madeline is also one of those defenders that is an offensive threat. She is fantastic scoring with her head on corner kicks and she has a 50 yard throw in that will be a great weapon for us.

Jessica Cervantes -- Stockton, CA

The reigning Tri City Athletic League MVP, Jessica is one of the most prolific goal scorers in section history. In her three seasons and SMHS she has amassed an astounding 84 goals and 46 assists. In 2010 she led her team to the section championship match against Northern California power St. Francis of Sacramento. Her high school coach is Mark Kusanovich. She plays her club soccer for the California Cougars and Matt Kusanovich. Jessica plans on majoring in Criminal Justice with a minor in Sociology. Her parents are Ines and Max.

Coach Bolton: Jessica is absolutely magical with the ball. She combines touch, power and strength and it is very difficult to get the ball away from her. Her left foot is absolutely wicked and I know she is going to be a force in the CCAA. She will be a great compliment to the blazing speed of some of our other forwards because she will also be able to score from distance.

Fun Fact: Both of Jessica's sisters went to Cal State Stanislaus. Her sister Crystal graduated last year. Her sister Vanessa is a center back for the Warriors.

Brianna Murawski -- Tracy, CA

This two-time First Team All League goalie is known for her toughness and courage in front of the net. In 2010 she led MHS to the first playoff appearance in school history. Her high school coach is Aryel Saldate. She is also a four-year letter winner in basketball. In addition to being a two-sport athlete Brianna is very accomplished in the classroom. She is ranked 2nd in her class and has been on the Gold Honor Roll all four years. She plays her club soccer for the California Cougars and is coached by Matt Kusanovich. Brianna plans on majoring in Kineseology and becoming a physical therapist. Her parents are LouAnne and Mathew.

Coach Bolton: Brianna has the most important quality any goalkeeper can have -- she keeps the ball out of the net. She has the heart to dive into any situation and make the save for her team. She is also a terrific leader who is able to communicate and organize her defense. Brianna is going to come in and challenge for playing time right away.

Fun Fact: Brianna is deathly afraid of the ocean and boats.

A MVAL First Team All League player from Mission San Jose High School in Fremont, Lica is an outstanding center back and center midfielder. The four-year letter winner in both soccer and track is captain of the two-time league champion Warriors. The NCS Scholar Athlete also helped lead the team to an NCS appearance in 2010. The Warriors are coached by Stephanie Cockrill. Lica plays her club soccer for Bay Oaks and coach Katie Teekell who were State Cup Quarter-Finalists in 2010. Lica is planning on majoring in Kineseology. Her parents are Heidi and Hideki.

Coach Bolton: Lica is going to be an terrific college soccer player. She is a very complete central player who does everything well. She is the type of player that can go unnoticed in games because she is so steady and makes things look so easy. But make no mistake she is doing all the hard work and making everyone around her better.

Fun Fact: Her name Lica or Rika (in Japanese) is the name of a popular Barbie doll in Japan. Lica owns two of those dolls.

Alejandra Larranaga -- Ceres, CA

A four-year varsity member of MHS, Alejandra is a wizard with the ball. Coached by Josh Fritz she is a two-time M.M.C. All Conference selection. She plays her club soccer for Ajax United Elite '94 where she is teammates with Jennifer Ramos and Tina Benson. Ajax is coached by Mark Vallee and Gabriel Bolton. She was Modesto Ajax Female Athlete of the Year in 2008. Alejandra is undecided in her major. Her parents are Miquel and Lisa.

Coach Bolton: Alex is a very gifted dribbler of the ball. She plays with great skill in very small spaces and has the vision to execute great passes. She will make a terrific attacking midfielder in our system and I anticipate her breaking down defenses with her dribble and passing skills. It is worth the price of admission just to see Alex beat players 1v1.

Fun Fact: Alejandra is a brilliant student who is part of the prestigious International Baccalaureate Program at Modesto High School.

Tina Benson -- Merced, CA

The Merced Sun-Star All-Area Player of the Year, Tina is a two-footed forward with great pace and athletic ability. In 2009 she notched 20 goals and five assists. Tina plays her club soccer for the Modesto Ajax and coaches Mark Vallee and Gabriel Bolton. She is undecided as to her major. Her parents are Tim and Robin.

Coach Bolton: Tina is an extremely talented attacking player. She has a forward's mentality and wants the ball at her feet. She isn't afraid to take the big shot and win the match. Tina's ability to play equally well both on the left and the right side make her extremely valuable and someone that is going to make an immediate impact at a wing forward position.

Fun Fact: Her favorite pair of Mia Hamm cleats from when she was eight years old still hang in her room.

Katelyn Nebesnick -- Gilroy, CA

A phenomenal goalscorer with a stellar left foot, Katelyn is a two-time All CCAA player from Gilroy HS. She helped lead GHS to four consecutive TCAL Championships. She was team captain in 2009, 2010, and 2011. She is also a four-time honor student and two-time Athlete of the Month at GHS. Her high school team is coached by Jose Hernandez. Katelyn plays her club soccer for the Orchard Valley Sting. Her major is currently undeclared. Her parents are Lynn and Mike.

Coach Bolton: Katelyn just knows how to put the ball in the back of the net. I don't ever think I've seen her play a game where she didn't score at least one goal. It is incredible! She can score anyway needed but her left foot is one of the best I've ever seen. Katelyn really caught my eye last summer with her play, high level of fitness, and love for the game.

Fun Fact: Katelyn is also a field hockey star at Gilroy High School.

Karli Nestler -- Santa Rosa, CA

A First Team All North Bay League center defender at Santa Rosa HS, Karli is expected to rule the midfield as a Warrior. She is a four-time North Bay League selection and led her team to the NCS quarterfinals in 2007 and 2008 and the NCS semi-finals in 2009 and 2010. Karli was also named Scholar Athlete in 2007, 2008, and 2010. Her high school team is coached by Nikki Kumasaka. Karli plays her club soccer for the Santa Rosa United Aftershock and head coach Emiria Salzmann. The Aftershock are 2010 State Cup Semi-finalists. Karli will be majoring in Kinesiology with the hopes of a career in sports medicine, physical therapy or personal training. Her parents are Katherine and David.

Coach Bolton: Karli is a gifted two-way player and a fierce competitor. She is the perfect defensive midfielder in our system. She has wonderful skill but at the same time a mean streak that will make her a terrific enforcer on the field. She really combines the skill of a forward with the size and toughness of a center back. There is no doubt in my mind she will elevate the play of our midfield.

Fun Fact: Karli can beat box (something the entire coaching staff can't wait to hear)!

Emma Bennett -- Murrieta, CA

Coach Bolton: Emma is an explosive and physical defender which is exactly what we were looking for in our 2011 class. She is a tremendous athlete with all the physical tools to take her game to the next level. She is a natural right back but she can play any position in the back line.

Jennifer was also varsity cross-country MVP in 2007, 2008, 2010 as well as team captain in 09 and 10. She plays her club soccer for Modesto Ajax '94. The team is coached by former Cal State Stanislaus men's assistant coach Mark Vallee. He is assisted by current women's soccer coach Gabriel Bolton. Jen will be majoring in Biology. Her parents are Sang and Danny.

Coach Bolton: Jen can play every position on the field other than goalkeeper. She combines great fitness along with outstanding technical skill. She also has a very high soccer IQ. I can see Jen competing for playing time at attacking mid or outside back on our team next season. She has all the skills to be an outstanding college player.

Fun Fact: In her younger years Jennifer used to show goats in 4H.

Alyssa Strope -- Tracy, CA

A natural left back Alyssa has the ability to play any position in the back line. In 2010 she led her varsity team to the SJAA League Championship for the first time in 30 years. Tracy HS is coached by Joe Perry. She plays her club soccer for one of the top programs in the state, the Cal Cougars out of Stockton, where she is coached by Matt Kusanovich. Alyssa plans on majoring in Liberal Studies and wants to be a Special Education teacher. Her parents are Yvette and Ken.

Coach Bolton: Alyssa is one of the fittest high school athletes I've ever seen. She has the ability to run for 90 minutes and play at a high level the entire time. That is a great quality for an outside defender in our system. She loves to attack out of the back which is exactly what we are looking for from our outside backs. She is a perfect fit for our style of play.

Fun Fact: Alyssa is a member of her high school's varsity dance team (see picture on right).

Chelsea Lewandowski -- Citrus Heights, CA

Daughter of Mary and Jeff.

Coach Bolton: Chelsea is a fantastic goalkeeper who I expect will come in and challenge for playing time immediately. In addition to being a great athlete she brings a number of intangibles to the table. She is a terrific leader and a great communicator. Those are critical qualities for a goalkeeper at the next level.

Fun Fact: Chelsea is senior-class president at Bella Vista High School.

Cal State Stanislaus head women's soccer coach Gabriel Bolton announced the addition of three players to the 2010 squad. Joining the Warriors this fall will be center defender Salina Ortiz, forward Elizabeth Scherrer and defender Ashley Webb.

"We are very lucky to pick up these three late additions to our team,” said Bolton. “I was very impressed with all three and I'm confident they will make an impact on our program.

Warriors Raise $1,500 to Fight Cancer!

The Cal State Stanislaus women’s soccer team raised more than $1,500 for the American Cancer Society by participating in Relay For Life of Waterford this past weekend.

Led by junior Jade Adamson and Assistant Coach Adrienne Sorenson, the Warriors entered Relay For Life under the team name Megan’s Warriors. The team was named after Waterford resident and Warrior fan Megan Gonzalez.

The Warriors raised money by having friends and family donate to their Relay for Life team. In addition they gathered donations at Spring soccer games against University of Pacific, UC Davis, and Fresno State. During the Relay For Life event the Warriors ran a soccer clinic. Then the players took turns walking the Waterford High School track an hour at a time for 24 hours straight.

Warriors Sign 9 Recruits

TURLOCK — Cal State Stanislaus head women’s soccer coach Gabriel Bolton announced today the addition of nine newcomers to the program. All nine will be incoming freshmen. The Warriors added Allison Case, Karenee Demery, Allie Dugan, Marriah Kessler, Emily Relles, Alyssa Robles, Lauren Thornton, Janelle Triplett , Morgan Torres-Unger.

“This is an explosive class that I expect will come in and compete right away for playing time and starting positions on our team,” said Bolton. “Not only are these student-athletes terrific soccer players and students but they will also complement our tremendous team chemistry because of their character as people.”

New Warrior: Karenee Demery

Karenee Demery will make the short drive up CA-99 from Merced to join the Warriors next season. Karenee is a forward with blazing speed and a great knack for getting in behind defenses and scoring goals. She plays her club soccer for the Merced United Freedom which were 2009 US Club Region G Champions. Karenee is coached by local soccer expert Scott McKee. She attends Harvest Christian School in Merced but does not play soccer for her high school because they do not offer athletics.

What coach Gabriel Bolton is saying about Karenee:

"Karenee is going to make a tremendous impact on our program. As they say 'speed kills" and Karenee has the speed and skill to be absolutely deadly at the next level. While she will certainly be one of the fastest players on our team and in the CCAA what makes her truly special is her ability to time her runs behind the defense and finish her opportunities. A local product from Ripon, Morgan Torres-Unger will be an explosive addition to the Warrior goalkeeping squad. The 5'6 star from Ripon High School has racked up the honors during her first three years of high school soccer. Morgan was Trans Valley 1st Team her last two years and was Trans Valley 2nd Team in 2007. She helped lead Ripon HS to the Trans Valley League Championship in 2007, 2008 and 2009. They were CIF Section Finalists in 2007 and Section Champions in 2009. She is coached by top local high school coach Jose Bobadilla. At the club level she plays for the Modesto Ajax and local soccer guru Steven Dean. Ajax is one of the top U18 teams in Northern California.

Marriah Kessler hails from one of the top clubs in the nation the Laguna Hills Eclipse in Southern California. The 5'7 goalkeeper is known for her leadership and strong technical skill. Marriah plays her club soccer for well known coach Ben Helm. At the high school level she is a starter for Southern California power Mission Viejo High School and coach Susie Daher. Marriah was All League 2nd Team in 2009 in the South Coast League and was voted to the Excalibur All Tournament Team in 2010. She was also All League 1st Team in 2009 for the South Coast League in the sport of Lacrosse.

New Warrior: Lauren Thornton

Lauren is the second player from Clovis West High School to sign with the Warriors this year. She is a physical athletic defender with the ability to play any position in the back line. Lauren plays her club soccer for the California Odyssey where she has helped them to two US Club Regional Championships. At the club level she spends most of her time at center back and outside back for head coach JJ Wosniak. In high school she plays defensive center mid for Clovis West.

"Lauren has all the qualities you want in a defender. She is athletic, has good speed, is extremely physical, and can keep possession of the ball. She is going be able to step right in to our back line and make an impact. I just love the way Lauren plays the game, especially her competitiveness. She isn't afraid to get physical and let a forward know that she's in charge."

New Warrior: Allison Case

A smooth center midfielder, Allison Case will add a lot of offensive firepower to the Warriors. The Clovis West playmaker is known for her ability to both set up teammates and score goals herself. In February of this year she broke the school record for goals with her 22nd. Allison plays her club soccer for one of the top youth clubs in the country the California Odyssey out of Fresno. Her club coach is Odyssey Director of Coaching JJ Wosniak. At the high school level her coach is Jason Berg. In 2009 Allison was All League First Team and was also named to the All Valley team. She is the third player to join the Warriors from Clovis West High School in the past 5 years following former Warrior center midfielder Tiffani Moore and current Warrior defender Kayln Pottorff.

"Allison is the type of player that makes everyone else around her better. She makes everything look so easy but is an extremely aggressive and hard working player. Allison also has the ability to score goals out of the midfield which is a great weapon to have. She is going to fit right in with the style of soccer we like to play because she has the skill and she has been very well coached."

New Warrior: Allie Dugan

Allie Dugan comes to the Warriors from Leigh High School in San Jose where she was teammates with current Warrior Marissa Dunaway for two years. Dugan is a speedy forward who plays her club soccer for two-time State Cup Champions DeAnza Force and head coach Curtis McAllister. At the high school level Dugan was All-League First Team in 2009 and Team MVP. She is also in the process of breaking nearly every LHS offensive scoring record. Most of those records were previously held by her good friend "Dun".

"Allie is a very fast wing forward who plays in a similar system with her DeAnza Force club team. She has been very well coached and has the speed and skill to come in and adjust to college soccer right away. She will be an important part of a very fast and explosive group of forwards."

Emily Relles brings a unique set of skills up Highway 99 from Souther California. The outside defender is an impressive blend of speed, offensive skill, and defensive ability. She primarily plays left back for her Valley United team and legendary club coach Hugh Donald. But she is equally confident on either side of the field. She has also been know to step up to the forward line in high school soccer when a goal is needed.

"Emily is the complete package as a player. She is a perfect fit at outside defender for our program because we like to get our wing backs into the attack. Emily has the speed to go forward as well as the skill to take players on and cross balls into the box with both feet. As an added bonus Emily plays left back which in my experience is one of the most difficult positions to play."

New Warrior: Janelle Triplett

Janelle is a 5-1 speedster who can play both attacking mid and all three forward positions. She attends Heritage High School and plays her club soccer for the East Diablo Impact. Janelle caught the eye of the Warrior coaching staff last summer by attending the Warrior Elite High School ID camp at Cal State Stanislaus.

"Janelle is one of the most aggressive and intense players I've ever seen. She plays with a lot of heart and fight and will be a tremendous addition to our team. She has fantastic speed which will make her a threat to get in behind defenses."

Alyssa Robles is an explosive and creative wing player who joins the Warriors from the San Juan Soccer Club and Vanden High School in Fairfield. She can play both on the left and right wings as well as attacking mid.

"Alyssa is a fantastic soccer player and is a great fit for our system. She is dynamic on the ball and has the athletic ability to cover the ground. I can see her playing multiple attacking positions on our team because she is equally good on the left and right side of the field."

Bri's Nebraska Adventures!

Bri McClain is a redshirt junior and team captain of the women's soccer team. She was selected to attend the Nebraska Conference for Undergraduate Women in Mathematics. The Conference is open to outstanding undergraduate women mathematicians at all stages of their careers. It is this weekend in Lincoln Nebraska and Bri has agreed to share her trip with The Blog!

Thursday 1/28/2010

My first day in Nebraska and I have finally reached my destination. Nothing interesting has happened so far. I have been traveling all day since 7am and I didn't reach my hotel until about 8:30 this evening. The conference advisors were serious about dressing warm, because when we first arrived to our lay over in Denver it was a ridiculous 30 degrees, and then we made it to Omaha it was an even more ridiculous 12 degrees! I wasn't sure I was gonna make it, and I really didn't want to go outside of the airport at first, but I had to leave to catch the shuttle. The shuttle took me to my hotel and I was able to get settled in. I must add that I did a ton of math on the plane ride here, but there is a whole lot of more waiting for me this weekend. I am looking forward to it, and I'll let you know see how it goes. Talk to you tomorrow!

So, today everyone came together for the first day of the conference. It was over 250 undergraduate women who study mathematics, and they all came from different parts of the US. It was exciting to see everyone, and hear their perspective on math, which happens to vary everywhere. We started off the day with our first plenary talk right after registration. THe talk consisted of an opening session and discussion on geometric group theory. We talked about how sets of symmetry form groups, and how this can be applied to abstract algebra and ping pong theory. I didn't fully understand everything in the talk, which is often very common, but I was able to get an idea of how symmetries can be applied outside of inverses and abstract algebra. It was interesting to hear. We next went to a panel discussion about careers in mathematics, and we were able to ask questions regarding how to find a job and how to juggle and job and your normal lifestyle. After that we had dinner, and that was pretty much the end of the night. We are all going to bed now, because tomorrow will be a long day with a lot more math!

Saturday 1/30/2010

Today seemed like it lasted forever. I must say I've had more analystical math discussions today thank I've had in my whole life! The day started off for me with a talk on knot theory, and the difference between lattic numbers and cube numbers. We next went to a seminar on Hadamard Matrices, which was a session I was completely lost in, and retained little to nothing from. After that I enjoyed a talk on stochastic and financial modeling, and how it can be used to predict recession and unemployment. I left that session with the idea that the recession will improve, but we can predict precisely when we can come back. The last session I went to, and the best one in my opinion, was about sudoku and shidoku boards. Shidoku has size four squares, instead of nine and have multiple solutions. We discussed that through an organized system of equations, we can solve each shidoku board for all of its solutions, by simply putting it all on paper. I haven't figured the whole system and proof out but I soon will! After all of the sessions we looked at posters made by students, and wen to lunch. To end the day we went to breakout sessions, where I learned about how tto pick and prepare for graduate school mathematics. After that we had dinner, and were let free for the rest of the evening. I am now in my hotel room, and yet to see what 250 mathematicians do with their free time. We'll see what happens, but all I know is I by far have had enough math for the day!

Bernie Bettencourt's goal 11 seconds into the second half against Cal State Monterey Bay was named 2009 Women's Soccer Goal of The Year as voted on by Warrior fans. She won with 49% of the 1701 votes cast. Kim DiNardo's overtime game-winning goal against Central Washington finished second with 43% of the vote. Bernie, who is from San Jose, just completed her freshman season for the Warriors. The winner of the season tickets competition will be announced next week on the blog!

Not only did Garcia break the single-season school record for goals (11) but she also led the CCAA regular season in scoring. Lisa Garcia Named All CCAA

Congratulations to junior Lisa Garcia who was just named All CCAA 2nd Team. Garcia led the conference in scoring with 11 goals. She is the first Warrior to ever lead the CCAA in goals. She also finished second with 27 points. The 11 goals was a new Cal State Stanislaus single-season record. She set the new mark in dramatic fashion scoring the game-winning goal with 7 minutes remaining against San Francisco State in the season finale on Sunday. The score also lifted the Warriors to their 8th winning season in 9 years. Her 27 points on the season tied her for the Cal State Stanislaus single-season record with Marti Teunissen. It was Teunissen who held the previous record for goals in a season with 10. Both are graduates of Sierra High School in Manteca.

Warrior women's soccer swept CCAA play this weekend with wins over San Francisco State on Friday night and Cal State Monterey Bay on Sunday afternoon. The Warriors kicked off the weekend with a 2-0 victory over the Gators. Junior Lisa Garcia scored both goals on two assists from freshman Apryl Whitney. Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Millie Brown posted the shutout behind a strong effort of the Warrior defense. READ FULL GAME STORY HERE. On Sunday Cal State Stanislaus came out on fire scoring less than 2 minutes into the match against the Otters en route to a 3-0 win. Warriors Volunteer With Special Olympics

Members of the Cal State Stanislaus women's soccer team volunteered with Special Olympics on Sunday to help run a soccer tournament in nearby Ripon. Sierra Casas, Taylor Waldon, and Nichole Meyer took time from their weekend to give back to the soccer community. The three volunteered as refs, scorekeepers, and administratively to help run a fantastic tournament. The tournament was held at the Mistlin Soccer Complex.

The Warriors made the most of their day in between games today. The day started around 10:oo a.m. with a pool workout followed by a jog and stretch at Cal State LA. After a few hours of down time for ice baths and studying the team was off to the home of Ally Freels for an amazing dinner of fajitas! Then it was time for the team to attend a pro game at the Home Depot Center between Chivas USA and New York Red Bulls. The match ended in a 1-1 tie after Chivas missed a PK in the 90th minute. OUCH! After the match the team returned to the hotel for a quick team meeting and then off to bed. Junior Lisa Garcia was named Warrior of the Week for her 3 goal performance this past weekend against the University of Hawaii Hilo and Fresno Pacific University. Against Hilo she stole a ball from a defender at the top of the box after a corner kick and ripped it past the goalkeeper near post. She also converted a penalty kick. Against Fresno Pacific Garcia scored a GOALASO when she bent a ball into the upper 90. This was her first WOW award.

SACRAMENTO — In its first preseason exhibition of the 2009 season, the Cal State Stanislaus women's soccer team used tough defense and great goalkeeping to hold Division I Sacramento State scoreless.

Goalkeepers Millie Brown and Jessica Sitarz each had three saves and despite allowing 21 shots -- six of them on goal, the Warriors played the Hornets to a 0-0 draw Sunday at Hornet Soccer Field.

"We have been working on our defending all week. I was pleased with our organization and effort," CSU Stanislaus head coach Gabriel Bolton said. "Mille had a fantastic save on a breakaway in the first half and Jess really stepped up with a big save in the second half and organized everything very well."

Warriors Take On Hornets Sunday

The Warriors will travel north on 99 on Sunday morning to take on the Sacramento State Hornets. The Hornets are one of the top teams in the Big Sky Conference. It is the first exhibition match of the year for both teams although under NCAA rules Sacramento State was allowed to start training approximately 5 days before the Warriors started. Elite Residential Campers spent tonight playing a Game Room Olympic Tournament. The games were Wii Golf, Wii Bowling, Pool and Ping Pong. Alyssa and Tyler defeated Emily and Sidney in the finals to win the gold!

Elite ID Camp started on Monday with 26 high school age girls joining the Cal State Stanislaus women's soccer staff for a week of college-level workouts. The Warriors will open 2009 on August 27th in the new 2,000 seat Warrior Stadium. This past spring the Warrior women's soccer team spent time volunteering with Habitat for Humanity to build homes in the Modesto Area for low income families.
